TOMORROW: Global Perspectives for IHE – Lavern Samuels – IEASA

LAVERN SAMUELS | Dr. Lavern Samuels is presently Director: International Education and Partnerships at Durban University of Technology (DUT). He was the Senate representative on the University Council of DUT for 16 years until 2019. Dr. Samuels is a dentist, having qualified at the University of the Witwatersrand. He has previously been Academic Head of the Department of Dental Sciences and later Environmental Health at DUT. He subsequently served as Deputy Dean and Acting Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at DUT. Dr. Samuels was a board member on the Health Profession Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and served on the Ethics Monitoring Advisory Committee of an internationally funded Research project called RHIVA (Reducing HIV in Adolescents). He is also the immediate past Chairperson of the Institutional Forum of DUT, a position he held for 14 years. He is currently a member of the Foreign Qualifications Committee of the South African Qualifications Committee – SAQA. He is also a Board Member of the ICON (International Centre on Non-Violence) and the M L Sultan Charitable and Educational Trust. Dr. Samuels is the former President of the International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA), an organisation he currently serves as Treasurer and Chair of its Directors Forum. Dr. Samuels serves on the Strategic Planning Working Group of DUT and more recently was appointed to serve on the COVID-19 Response Team of DUT.
